What to do after an accident?
• Obtain the names, addresses, driver’s licenses and vehicle plates for everyone involved. If one of the vehicles has out-of-province plates, ask to see the driver’s insurance documents and note the name of the insurance company.
• Take pictures of the accident scene, particularly before vehicles are moved. The rest position of vehicles after an impact can help an engineer calculate speed and other crucial information in determining liability.
• Seek prompt medical attention for any complaints of pain, dizziness, nausea or disorientation after the accident. When reporting the accident to ICBC, make sure you tell them you were injured. Be as expansive as you can when reporting the parts of your body that felt injured after the accident. Bear in mind that injuries often develop over time.
• Consult an experienced ICBC lawyer before signing any statements or authorizations at the request of ICBC.
